August 4th 2009 my youngest daughter was born. I had a cesearean with my first child two years earlier and so had a repeat one with this child. For anyone who has had a c-section you would know that your body literally feels wrecked afterwards. You can't sit up, bend over or laugh without burning and intense pain in your lower abdomen. You are put on strict orders not to pick up anything heavier than your child, not to excercise or go up and down steps, soak in a tub, or even drive for up to six weeks.
It was after my daughter's birth that I decided when I had the opportunity again to have my body fully back in my control I was going to be pro active about getting it back where it needs to be. Not just to lose the "baby wieght" (which was fifty pounds) but to become healthy again, and to begin training to run a 5K marathon.
That was over six weeks ago.
I am ready.
I am ready to tone and shape and condition myself physically and mentally. I know this is something I can do because I have done it before. When I was younger I enjoyed running . I know now that I am a bit older, but I feel its never too late to start again.
I already feel great mentally and physically and have lost all but twenty pounds of the above mentioned weight so I am excited about getting started.
This journal is for my own personal reflections but I am opening it up for others to read in case there are other women out there who feel like running a 5K is something they might be interested in as well. Or perhaps they are looking into setting up a running/walking routine or maybe just need a little inspiration.
If so, then this is for you.

I'm just plugging along right now getting myself ready, and then hopefully find one somewhere close by this Spring. Once I try a 5K then I'll think about a Half Marathon, which are typically easier to find. Like the Music City Marathon.
